OU Softball Dominates with Run-Rule Victory
The Oklahoma Sooners showcased their prowess in a thrilling run-rule victory over New Mexico State on Friday afternoon. With a combined 11 RBIs from Gabbie Garcia and Ailana Agbayani, the Sooners cruised to an 18-6 win in just five innings. Garcia's power-hitting prowess was on full display, as she hit a home run in the second game, followed by a six-run fifth inning, all thanks to the team's exceptional long-ball hitting.
Freshman Kendall Wells, catcher Ailana Agbayani, and sophomore Tia Milloy also contributed to the offensive fireworks. Wells, in particular, made a strong debut, driving in two runs and going deep herself. The Sooners' bats were on fire, with eight home runs in total, the most in a single game since 2021. Sydney Barker, Agbayani, Kai Minor, and Kasidi Pickering also homered, showcasing the team's depth and power.
However, the game wasn't all offense. The Sooners' pitching duo of Kierston Deal and Audrey Lowry had their work cut out for them, allowing three runs each. Lowry secured her fourth win of the season, coming in relief of Deal in the second inning. Despite the uneven outing, the Sooners' offense proved too strong, improving their record to 5-1 for the season.
In another impressive display, the Sooners dominated Montana with a 17-0 victory in five innings. Isabela Emerling had a stellar performance, hitting three home runs, including a solo shot, a two-run bomb, and a three-run round-tripper. The Sooners' bats continued to roar, with eight home runs in total, showcasing their offensive firepower.
The Sooners' pitching staff also stepped up, with Miali Guachino making her first start at OU. She delivered a stellar performance, throwing 4.1 innings with no hits, one walk, and six strikeouts, earning her initial win as a Sooner. Berkley Zache came in for the final two outs, showcasing her relief skills.
Looking ahead, the Sooners have an exciting weekend ahead, with games against Minnesota, Idaho State, and UTEP. The team's dominant performances and powerful hitting have set the stage for a promising season, leaving fans eager to see more of their talent and determination.
