Mervyn Polzin, a lifelong grazier in Queensland, is bidding farewell to his beloved vintage tractors, trucks, and machines. At 78, he's letting go of his life's passion, a collection that once filled his family's Greenview property with steel-skinned machinery. Mervyn's fascination with machines began with a single small steel-wheeled tractor over 40 years ago, and he eventually amassed over 250 tractors, trucks, and farm machines. The auction of his collection attracted over 800 people, some traveling from as far as central New South Wales. Despite the sale, Mervyn's story is not just about machines but also about the quiet arithmetic of aging and letting go. After his brother's death and a quad bike accident, Mervyn realized it was time to face life and take it easy. With no heirs, he plans to sell the rest of his property and donate half the proceeds to St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, inspired by their care. Mervyn's legacy is not just in the machines he collected but also in the impact he has on others' lives.
