Honda Civic Type R: Sold Out Despite Price Hike! | CarExpert Review (2026)

Bold statement: The Honda Civic Type R keeps selling out even as prices jump, and this latest restock isn’t open to public orders yet. And this is the part most people miss: you may have to act fast or miss out entirely, despite the higher price tag.

Honda Australia has secured additional stock of the highly sought-after Civic Type R, but the situation is more expensive than before and not currently available for direct online ordering. The exact number of FL5 Type R units in this latest shipment hasn’t been disclosed, but CarExpert understands most cars will go to customers who previously expressed interest, exactly as happened when orders were briefly open in August 2025. In practical terms, that means the public-facing Honda Australia site still shows current stock and pricing, yet you cannot configure or place a new order right now—the site even flags that stock has been exhausted due to overwhelming demand.

The price has jumped to $85,500 drive-away, a rise of $6,500 from the last available figure, and it’s $12,900 more than the 2023 launch price of the current-gen model.

Honda Australia told CarExpert that part of the price increase is attributable to the inclusion of a carbon-fiber rear wing, now standard on the hot hatch. This feature used to be a $5,300 option.

Beyond that change, there have been no other specification updates. The Civic Type R remains powered by a high-revving, turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that delivers 235 kW of power and 420 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission that features automatic rev-matching and sends drive exclusively to the front wheels.

Performance equipment remains strong: adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential, and the signature three-outlet valved exhaust. On the interior, you’ll find 19-inch black alloy wheels, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and red-upholstered sport seats.

Technology includes a 9.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster in a cockpit-style layout.

In broader market terms, the Civic Type R is notably more expensive than rivals such as the Toyota GR Corolla (from about $67,990 before on-road costs) and the Volkswagen Golf R (from about $71,990 before on-roads).

At this time, it’s unclear when more FL5 Type R units will arrive in Australia or how many will be allocated. There’s no information on when the current-generation hatch might end production, though it has been discontinued in Europe and base-model orders have been suspended in Japan.
