Exciting news for music game enthusiasts: a brand-new title reminiscent of Guitar Hero is on its way to Xbox! After a long hiatus since the last release, Guitar Hero Live in 2015 (with a brief mention of Fortnite Festival in 2023), the upcoming game promises to reignite the passion for rhythm gaming.
Called Sound System, this innovative project comes from Echo Foundry Interactive, helmed by seasoned developers who have previously contributed to the iconic Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, and Band Hero franchises. The game is said to be a "next-generation rhythm platform aimed at performance, competition, and community engagement." At launch, players can enjoy playing guitar, bass, and singing.
Sound System will feature two distinct modes: Classic and Pro. The Classic mode offers a more relaxed experience with wider timing windows and no-fail states, making it accessible for beginners. In contrast, the Pro mode caters to those looking for a rigorous challenge. Initially, Sound System will be free-to-play, but there will also be a "Complete" edition available for $34.99. This edition grants access to all 60 tracks available at launch, along with additional bonuses. Players will also have the option to purchase individual songs as downloadable content (DLC).
A key highlight of Sound System is its extensive customization features. Gamers will have the ability to choose dynamic backgrounds, personalized themes, and full-motion videos. Additionally, a note chart editor is incorporated into the game, allowing players to create their own music experiences!
According to a press release, Sound System is set to bring guitar gaming back to its arcade roots while embracing modern elements such as free music, streaming capabilities, and community-driven gameplay. Players will not only shred guitar riffs and belt out vocals but can also craft custom note charts for any song they desire, marking a new chapter in the world of music gaming. The game is slated to debut on PC in Spring 2026, with anticipated versions for PlayStation®, Nintendo® Switch™, and Xbox also in development.
While we eagerly await the Xbox launch, it's important to note the exciting introduction of a new guitar controller, the "InfinaKore Telecaster Edition," unveiled alongside Sound System. This controller boasts a fully modular design, allowing for customizable components, and includes a unique Fret-Tapping D-Pad feature intended to challenge both veteran and novice players alike.
