FanDuel Sports Network: Massive Viewership Gains for NBA and NHL Streaming in 2025 (2026)

The Rise of FanDuel Sports Network: A Double Win for NBA and NHL Fans

In a thrilling development, FanDuel Sports Network (FDSN) is experiencing a surge in total audience viewership for both NBA and NHL coverage. As we approach the festive season, the network's innovative approach to streaming and linear TV is paying dividends.

NBA: A Streaming Revolution

The NBA teams affiliated with FDSN RSNs are witnessing a remarkable transformation in their viewership. A 12% increase in total audience viewership for NBA games is a testament to the network's success. Linear TV, a traditional platform, has also seen a modest 2% year-over-year growth, but the real game-changer has been the focus on in-market streaming.

David Coletti, FanDuel Sports Network's head of research, attributes this success to a strategic shift:

"It's a combination of viewers embracing streaming and our collaborative efforts with partner teams to educate fans. We're ensuring fans know how to access their favorite teams via streaming, and the results are encouraging."

Nearly every NBA team on FDSN RSNs is experiencing a double-digit increase in unique streamers per game, with some teams even achieving triple-digit growth. The total minutes streamed for NBA teams across FDSN RSNs has reached an impressive 300 million, a 56% increase compared to last season. A staggering 88% of these streaming minutes are through direct-to-consumer (DTC) products.

Among FDSN's NBA partners, the Pistons lead the way with a remarkable 97% total audience increase. Other teams with notable growth include the Hawks, Heat, and Spurs.

NHL: A Frosty Success Story

FDSN's NHL coverage is equally impressive. The network is enjoying one of its strongest starts to an NHL season, with total audience viewership across RSNs up by a whopping 26%. Linear TV has seen a substantial 24% jump, while streaming has increased by an impressive 61%.

The total minutes streamed for NHL teams on FDSN RSNs stands at 204 million, a 69% increase. All NHL teams on FDSN are experiencing double or triple-digit growth in unique streaming viewers.

The Blue Jackets lead the pack with a 69% increase, followed by strong performances from the Blues, Kings, and Red Wings.

Coletti highlights the importance of sports content in retaining viewers:

"Sports content is a key driver for pay TV. Many who have left the traditional bundle still love their local teams. A significant portion remains in the pay TV bundle for sports, and we're tapping into that market."

The Controversy: Streaming vs. Linear TV

But here's where it gets interesting: FDSN's success story challenges the notion that streaming gains come at the expense of linear TV. Coletti's comment, "Always encouraging to see that you don't have to gain streaming viewers at the expense of another platform," hints at a potential shift in media consumption habits.

So, is this the beginning of a new era where streaming and linear TV coexist harmoniously? Or will one eventually dominate? What are your thoughts on the future of sports broadcasting? Feel free to share your insights and predictions in the comments below!
